This plaque is dedicated to the hundreds of thousands of Pontic Greeks who died between 1914 and 1923 as genocidal victims of the Ottoman Empire. Tens of thousands more suffered on death marches when they were expelled from their homes and lands. Their descendants have spread to over 30 countries. There are some 50,000 living in Australia.

South Australia 2008

Comments:

Grammatical error: "genocidal victims" should read "genocide victims".

Death marches conducted during the deportations of Ottoman Greeks were in fact a primary method of physical destruction and not, as suggested in the inscription, a supplementary practice with the objective of mere expulsion.
