The aim of teaching music at school
Itís a well-known fact that music is required subject at almost every school. Is it only education or may by something more for children? Why in general children need music?
One of the reasons of music lessons at school is to help children to adapt to school. It’s quite hard for them to study all day. And listening to music gives pupils a little rest. The other reason is education. A person should have a basic knowledge of some things, including music. One should know about such great musicians as Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Chaikovsky and have at least simple idea about music itself. But even this reason isn’t so important, after all.
The crucial component is that music have a great influence on child’s spiritual world. Even the antiquity knew that music can influence at formation of person’s moral quality. Pythagorean consider music to be a god’s gift. Platon, who strang along with Pythagor’s esthetic judgments, wrote: “…Rhythm and harmony reach greatly a person’s soul and excite it strongly if the education is correct. Our emotion mood changes when we perceive rhythm and melody. After perception of music we meet the same feelings when we meet the worldly truth.”
Music develops child’s sensibility and ability to sympathize. Children are very susceptible to such motivation of music.
Lessons of music accustom to work. In order to master any musical instrument one should daily repeat accords, phrases, passages over and over again. Moreover, to obtain result one should not only work a lot but also work concentrated. So if a child on completing musical school didn’t become a musician but is engaged with other studies or work, the time he/she preside was not evaporated. A child learn something that will help him or her in future: to work a lot and concentrated.
Music lessons develop intellectuality. Emotional culture stimulate brainwork, make to think about essence of these or that ideas of morality. That’s why emotions and brainwork are closely related. Children with mental retardation start talking under the influence of musical impressions.
Researches of Hungarian and german scientists showed that children, who studied music have a better reaction. The direct links were observed between musical and mathematical abilities of children. The teachers of junior school told that the lessons of reading pass better after musical lessons; children think better, their perception improves. The music wakes a mind. Hungarian pedagogue Tibor Sharay think that listening to music promote better learning of new material, decrease sense of intenseness.
In conclusion one may say that teaching music at school is not only getting a fundamental knowledge of music theory. The aim of music at school is much more deeper – to bring a child to moral quality.
